Officers reported they were alerted by a individual who discovered a car in Hanau covered with red-colored substance

Approximately 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Automobiles, walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.

Police report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.

The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then discovered many other marked cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials report initial examinations suggest the substance was likely human bodily fluid.

"There is still no lead as to where it came from; investigators are currently not informed of any physical harm in relation with the event," they commented.

Local authorities stated they were attempting "to solve the case" and have requested to the public for tips.

A high-ranking official said the vandalism rendered him without words and required to be solved quickly.

"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right attack in 2020," he stated on social media, recalling the killing of nine victims by a gunman focusing on residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
