European Football's Governing Body Opens Disciplinary Proceedings Concerning Pedro Neto After Push on PSG Stadium Attendant.
European football's governing body has initiated formal action against Chelsea's Pedro Neto following an incident where he pushed over a sideline assistant in the Champions League loss by Paris St‑Germain.
The 26-year-old, Pedro Neto, shoved the boy in the dying moments of the knockout stage first leg at Parc des Princes – a match in which Chelsea lost heavy defeat – which caused the boy falling from his seat.
It sparked a confrontation between players from both teams.
The governing body confirmed proceedings have been instigated against the player for "unsporting behaviour" as per the official rules.
"Uefa's disciplinary bodies will make a ruling regarding this matter at a later date," European football's governing body added in its statement.
The Chelsea player apologised for the incident and blamed getting swept up "in the emotion of the game" while he was attempting to quickly retrieve the ball.
"That is not who I am. It was in the heat of the moment and I offer my apologies. My shirt was given to him. I deeply regret it - an apology is necessary," Neto explained to the media.
"I have limited French, so teammate Vitinha intervened and said to him I was not like this.
"Finally he saw the funny side and I presented him with my jersey apologising repeatedly. He understood it was a mistake and was happy with the situation."
The London club welcome Paris St-Germain next Tuesday for the return fixture, following a match against Newcastle to Stamford Bridge this weekend in domestic competition.
