Former Bengals and University of Texas Receiver Jordan Shipley Severely Burned in Ranch Accident
Former Texas star and NFL receiver Jordan Shipley is hospitalized after suffering serious burns in an accident on his property near his Texas hometown.
Details of the Tragic Event
According to a family statement, Shipley was using a piece of machinery when it caught fire. Although the 40-year-old was able to free himself, it was not before he sustained severe burns over a large area of his body. He was able to get to one of his workers, who drove him to a nearby medical facility. He was then care-flighted to a hospital in Austin, where he remains in serious but stable condition.
“We ask for prayers for a complete recovery and no infections or other issues on his journey back to health,” posted his brother, Jaxon Shipley, on social media.
Extent of Burns
It has been reported that Shipley received full-thickness burns to more than 20% of his body. Family members have stated that the main danger at this stage is the threat of infection and lung complications.
Recalling Jordan Shipley's Career
Shipley received All-American honors while at Texas in 2009. As a collegiate athlete, he amassed 248 career catches for 3,191 yards and 33 touchdowns. A dual-sport athlete, he also competed in track for the university.
Drafted in the third round of the 2010 draft by the Cincinnati Bengals, he played for Cincinnati, Jacksonville, and Tampa Bay over his professional career. He officially retired in 2014.
