Manchester United Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for United
Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack
The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be building positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further business:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
