New York Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and is confident the athlete will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during their latest talk.

“What reassures me, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His family, they’re in good spirits and he will walk away from this just fine.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where he is reported as in critical but steady condition.

“Not certain at the moment,” Glenn remarked. “But I will say this, hearing him speak, he felt really upbeat. Once more, that’s what gives me comfort, because of his outlook and his words reflect that optimism.”

Authorities issued surveillance images earlier this week of an individual wanted in the incident involving Boyd. The reason behind the incident is currently under review and authorities said it remains uncertain if Boyd was targeted. There were no additional victims as confirmed by officials.

The attack took place around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning near MSG and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, twenty-nine, was transported to a local hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, as reported. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn shared Boyd has been on his mind “constantly” since the news broke. He further stated that Boyd and his wife just had a baby.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he recently became a father,” Glenn noted. “I thought of his spouse, I’m thinking about his kid and my priority is his well-being. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“A certain process is underway, that I won’t detail, but It is reassuring that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd was inactive this season, his first with the Jets, after being placed on injured reserve on 18 August with an injury to his shoulder that required surgery.

He joined the Jets as a free agent in spring and was anticipated to become a key part of an improved special teams group under the coach and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a training camp practice on early August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad throughout the season while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn said. “Certainly, he attends every game. His commitment is total. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, began his career with the Vikings after getting drafted in the seventh round by the Vikings out of Texas University in 2019. He later played for the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and moved to Houston’s squad later that season. Boyd inked a single-season agreement worth $1.6m with New York in the spring.
