Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's expected for concerns to be asked about his position following another heavy loss against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in twelve matches, marking the club's poorest run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a tough night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received significant support from above,” the coach stated.
“It would be nice to change things and earn three points of course but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my role. It is not the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with The Board
When asked to expand on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach said:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me constantly each day to say they trust me.”
He added, “Through standard exchanges I feel the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat so far so we'll see.”
Recurring Failings and Squad Response
Slot highlighted known failings from his team in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder remarked.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club for years.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a period such as this with performances like these.”
He finished, “But we still have the emblem on our shirts. And as long as it is removed, we’re always going to fight.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to its rightful place, show everyone once more the values of this club and why it's known as the top club in the world.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
